Conversations About Race & Culture Series: Building Community Unity and Addressing Harassment/Hate Crimes - May 9, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Bellevue City Hall, Council Chambers, 450 110th Avenue NE. This forum is designed to build community unity and provide information about how to address discrimination, mailicious harassment and hate crimes. The forum is free and open to the public. Speakers include: Uriel Iniquez (Washington State Commission on Hispanic Affairs), Rosa Melendez (Regional Director, US Dept. of Justice) and Arsalan Bukhari (Executive Director, CAIR-WA). Guest speakers are courtesy of CAIR (Council of American and Islamic Relations). Video (one hour) - The recent Community Unity Building Forum discussed issues of harassment and hate crimes, and how communities can address these problems. This video features Bellevue Police Chief Linda Pillo and Warren Read, author of The Lyncher in Me. Read talks about the causes for this kind of behavior, and Chief Pillo explains the laws regarding malicious harassment and hate crimes, and how the police can be a resource for the community. Voice of Diversity Television Program - The stories presented here offer a colorful look at the rich cultural diversity in Bellevue. This program features segments on art in Bellevue, a Black History exhibit, Bhangra music from India and artists from Russia and Japan displaying their talent.

Bellevue's Cultural Diversity Program, sponsored by the Parks & Community Services Department, is designed to meet the needs of Bellevue's growing diverse community in a multitude of ways.

Events - Cultural events featuring music, dance, theater and art with local performers and speakers.
Business events - Business professionals, minority-owned businesses and representatives from nonprofit organizations can network and receive advice at diversity business events held in Bellevue throughout the year.
Workshops - Hot cultural topics are the focus of our public forums, trainings, workshops and panel discussions.
Eastside Refugee and Immigrant Coalition (ERIC) – This group published an Eastside Community Access guide entitled "Helpful Connections," published in Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and English.
