Transit Planning
The city works to positively influence transit service and facilities in Bellevue by conducting planning and analysis in coordination with transit agencies. Past transit initiatives include the 2003 Bellevue Transit Plan and the Downtown Circulator Study. Bellevue is currently working with King County Metro on the Rapid Ride bus service to launch in the fall of 2011, which will link downtown with Crossroads, Overlake and Redmond.
Substantial planning is underway related to the Sound Transit East Link light rail line, approved by voters in 2008, which will connect Seattle with downtown Bellevue, Bel-Red and Overlake.
Bus ridership in Bellevue is generally increasing, as shown in Bus Ridership Trends 2005-2009. The American Community Survey shows a significant increase in transit commuting by Bellevue residents from 2008 to 2009.
